World Maker Faire and the Feast of San Gennaro

This is from weeks ago but I never posted it.
September 20, 2014
I went to the World Maker Faire at the New York Hall of Science in Queens for my Physical Science class, and it was actually a lot of fun. Maybe it was because it's sponsored by Disney, but I would definitely go again.

Out of the cereal puffing guns, robot fish singing Bohemian Rhapsody on a car, a life-size Mouse Trap that may or may not have worked, and a 3-D printer that can make things out of Nutella, the food was my favorite thing there (shocker).

Peace Love Tacos is my new favorite thing (if you ever come across this food truck, get the sweet potato tacos; you won't be disappointed).

There was also an entire tent devoted to paella, which looked (and smelled) incredible! The line was a bit too long, though, so I went with the tacos.

While I was wandering around the fair, I found the Ghostbusters, non-Newtonian liquid goo, and WildGrid, which allows users to charge their mobile devices through dirt, beer, or their own skin (I charged my phone with a jar of dirt!). I ended up choosing WildGrid as the topic for my class project because it is such an interesting product.

After the (hour-long) subway ride home from Queens, I headed downtown with some friends to Little Italy for the Feast of San Gennaro. Taylor and Krista were there on a bus trip with their school so I luckily got to see them two weekends in a row!

The streets were so unbelievably crowded that it got uncomfortable at some points. It was all worth it, though, when we decided on which of the hundreds of food vendors to get dinner from. A very large sausage and pepper sandwich for $9 was the winner. It might have been the best thing I've ordered off the streets of New York. We didn't get any dessert, although looking at the mountains of cannoli through glass cases made me wonder if that was the right decision or not.

Since we were downtown, we strolled past Central Perk on our way to the subway station. Yes, Central Perk as in the cafe from Friends. Yes, there was a line to get in. Yes, people had been waiting in said line for several hours. So no, I did not go inside. But in passing this monumental pop-up cafe, I got a few snaps and even a glimpse of the orange sofa.

Sorry for not posting this sooner. Things are betting busy here.

Overheards:
"She wrote long division in her diary."
"I want to rip the skin off my foot and create a new foot. Like a snake."
"Are you drawing boobs?"
"My life is like an overflowing bowl of fruit loops."
"Life is like a box of sushi."
"I look like a creamy mushroom."
"You probably get more enjoyment shitting it out than eating it."
"I would never date someone I met at Dunkin Donuts."
