Move-In Week

Everything written on this blog is what I have written in my journal throughout the week. I doubt I'll actually post weekly like I want to say I will.

Awkward goodbyes are done. Dad made me cry almost as much as leaving Webster did. Awkward bathroom introductions are done. It was like something off the Amanda show.

So far I've walked The Highline with Brandon and Kenny. (Note to self: try gelato cart up there.) Brandon escorted me to Radio Shack (where they do not keep Ethernet to Thunderbolt adapters in stock), Best Buy (where they carry Ethernet to USB adapters that may or may not work), Buffalo Exchange (where I purchased a cute dress with a missing label for $14), and Revolution Books (which reminds me of The Shop Around the Corner from You've Got Mail). I took a rather long and adventurous stroll to Rockefeller Plaza with Lexie, Brandon, and Kenny. It helped remind me that I am revolted by Times Square and those fake Disney characters that are ruining young tourists' childhoods. I should be watching Maleficent in the dining hall right now but I'm not feeling social. Surprise surprise. Also I just feel like writing. I think I'll be okay with a night in.

As a part of Red Group 29 for orientation, we put together a video for our Common Project, which is a scavenger hunt-meets forced icebreakers-meets Project Runway-meets making real friends. Naturally, being Red 29, we won the Common Project competition, resulting in VIP passes to sign up for New York Fashion Week jobs before anyone else. I am working from 2-9 on Tuesday, September 9th, with the model line-up.

Also today, I walked the Brooklyn Bridge. It was my first real experience with the subway, and after nearly a dozen pumps of hand sanitizer I can confidently say that it was not as disturbing as I had expected. After all, I did witness only one person sleeping on the floor. (Note to self: do not wear "cute" shoes for any outing that involves the word "tour." You will get blisters). The views were incredible, as can be expected nearly anywhere in New York City, ranging from Ellis Island to The Statue of Liberty, to the new and stunning Freedom Tower, to the coastline of good ol' dirty Jerz. A night of writing and a deep sleep is necessary after today.

Week 1 Overheards:
"I am going to fling myself off these bleachers."
"We will sink our teeth into it like pit bulls in a fight."
"He's in a metal band. He has to have a beard."
"My favorite color is glitter."
"You're only allowed to twerk after 5 pm."
"BIKE LANE."
